Assuming after Gravity‘s mind blowing success that my boo Sandra Bullock gets the respect she deserves, Bullock will no longer have the time to degrade herself with cheap comedies and their even cheaper sequels. A sequel to The Heat (one of the worst comedies of 2013) has been in the works since before the first film even released to moderate success. The very thought of this sequel is terrible, and Bullock seems to think the same.
Speaking with The Wrap at a Gravity screening, Bullock had this to say about her involvement in any more schlock:
I’m not doing a sequel to The Heat. I’ve done two sequels [editor’s note: The Wrap notes the sequels Bullock’s referring to are Speed 2: Cruise Control and Miss Congeniality 2]. They were horrible. What Melissa and I had was beautiful. We might do another film together. I think we should do a silent film together.
Although Paul Feig doesn’t want to do another Heat without both of his leads, he stated a screenplay is already complete and has “surpassed his expectations.” Feig also believed he knows the reason The Heat made a splash this Summer in the first place:
People wanted to have fun this summer and they wanted to see strong women being funny. It’s really breaking down the Hollywood prejudice about putting women in lead roles. After Bridesmaids and then this, I feel like we’re really breaking down the wall. Look, movies starring women and funny women can make money, so lets make more.
Did Feig even watch his own movie? The women in The Heat were treated awfully in their own movie and were the weakest characters! Bullock is smart to avoid more of this. Less crap, more films like Gravity please.
