Searching director, Aneesh Chaganty is reaching back into that parenting-based horror well once more with our first look at his second feature, Run. It follows an opposite philosophy however, where this daughter doesn’t need to be found–she needs get get the hell away and pronto!
Sarah Paulson definitely looks to bring the insanity in this pill-popping hallucinatory thriller. The photography is captivating, and the premise is intriguing, though I can’t help but wonder if Run isn’t a little too similar to thrillers that we’ve seen a dozen times before. Isolation, hallucinations, mental illness–even the upcoming The Woman in the Window shows a lot of the same tropes that psycho-thrillers have been leaning on for a bit too long.
Run may surprise, though, as Searching did. This may very well end up twisty and intriguing enough to stand on its own right. If nothing else, it snagged the right release date, securing May 8, 2020–Mother’s Day–to birth its mommy issues into theaters nationwide.
