The newest Shang-Chi trailer gives us a look at the supporting cast

Shang-Chi

It feels strange for me to be excited about a Marvel movie, but Shang-Chi is doing it. In the last trailer, we got a decent glimpse of the action bits that would punctuate this martial arts-inspired flick. With the newest trailer, we get a look at the supporting cast, including the legendary Hong Kong actor Tony Leung. To say I’m in heaven is maybe overselling it, but Shang-Chi looks good.

Set to hit theaters on September 3, 2021, Shang-Chi will see the titular hero (played by Simu Liu) face off against his father, The Mandarin (Tony Leung). There’s obviously going to be some world-building, comedy bits straight from Awkwafina, and more glorious Michelle Yeoh speeches, but the general plot is about a father and son not quite seeing eye-to-eye.

I’d definitely like to see some more of that, especially since Tony Leung apparently has amazing English. According to interviews, he really does speak that well, so I’m happy he’s getting a chance to show that off. I’m just happy these actors I grew up watching in a plethora of Hong Kong films are finally getting the recognition they deserve. It’s also about time Hollywood made a big-budget Kung Fu film. Thankfully, there won’t be any kind of Disney+ shenanigans when it comes to Shang-Chi.
