By I’m excited for The Gambler as it will be very interesting to see how Rupert Wyatt follows up the incredible Rise of the Planet of the Apes with a very grounded drama. However, the thing that will attract most people’s attention with this first look at the film is how much weight Mark Wahlberg lost for the role. The usually buff actor looks downright gaunt and kind of weird.
Evidently he lost 60 pounds for the role, and that’s always a good way to help you net an Oscar, which is what the film seems to be pushing for with its award season releases. It is a remake of a classic so it has that going for it as well. We’ll probably be getting a very dramatic trailer some time soon, and then eventually seeing the movie when it release on December 19th.
