The video game adaptations continue to heat up, as Netflix’s The Witcher is starting to materialize into the monster-hunting romp it hopes to be. Straight from the gryphon’s mouth, we have several new images and a poster for the upcoming fantasy epic.
I must say, the initial glimpse we caught of Henry Cavill made up as Geralt, the gruff half-breed hunter and hero of the smash game and book series, wasn’t astounding. It looked a bit… wig-y. That is, just a little cheap. Cavill’s appearance in the poster definitely nails the costume though, and seeing Geralt in full frame instills a bit more confidence.
Joining the batch of images, viewable in the gallery below, are Anya Cholatra as Yennefer, Geralt’s love interest and sorceress-extroardinaire, and Freya Allan as Ciri. The Obi-Wan to Geralt’s Qui-Gon, if you will. Just immensely more powerful.
With massive franchises like Final Fantasy and gaming industry stories like Masters of Doom adding to the list every day, video games are really starting to cross-pollinate with film and television. You can only go up from Super Mario Bros, right?
There is currently no date set, but The Witcher is expected to premiere on Netflix later this year.
