What do Daryl Hannah, Thora Birch, and Tom Sizemore all have in common?
1. They’ve all appeared naked in one place or another (the Tom Sizemore sex tape is by far the most entertaining sex tape out there)
2. They’re all going to appear in the film adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s Snuff.
What’s Snuff, you say? Long story short, the book follows three of the six hundred men partaking in an attempt to break the record for largest one-woman group sex video, as well as the past-her-prime adult film star’s assistant.
Hannah will play the aging adult film queen Cassie Wright, Sizemore will play one of the three men, the Ron Jeremy-esque Mr. 600, and Thora Birch will fill the shoes of Sheila, the beleaguered assistant to Wright.

The casting is great. Tom Sizemore is an absolutely ridiculous human being, and I think he'll pull off the role with great zeal. Thora Birch is always a welcome addition to any cast, and playing the stressed-out, no-bullshit Sheila seems like a perfect fit. The still-sexy-at-fifty Hannah is an interesting choice for the role of Cassie and it will be interesting to see if she can pull it off.
The only real concern I have is the director/writing team. Fabien Martorell, co-writer and director, has only directed a French short film and a documentary (granted it was about Troma's Lloyd Kaufman). His co-writer, Karina Wilson, has just the one credit on her IMDb page, and that's as Martorell's assistant director on the Kaufman doc.
Not that relative unknowns can't rock our faces off. Look at Gareth Edwards! His debut film Monsters rocked off plenty of faces. However, Snuff is not an original work, and it comes from the same stable as Fight Club, Choke, and Survivor. Expectations will be high. However, the following from Martorell gives me hope:
"Snuff is a suspense/thriller sets in the gritty world of adult entertainment. Fabien Martorell would like to shoot Snuff as a single "closed door" set. The use of flashbacks will aide in the communication of character history, and help sustain a dramatic rhythm."
I am a big Palahniuk fan. I've read almost all his books, loved Fight Club almost as much as Toby, and raged plenty at the film version of Choke ignoring one of the central plot points of the book's climax. Am I surprised, thrilled, and excited about another Chuck P adaptation? Hell yes. Am I going forward with caution? Absolutely.
