Before Sony Pictures even finds out how well The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will do in theaters, and before releasing the first teaser footage for it, they’ve confirmed that they’re going to hold to the rights to Spider-Man for a very, very long time. Either Sony is confident in their franchise’s staying power or just as they scrambled to make The Amazing Spider-Man a thing just so the rights wouldn’t revert back to Marvel, they’rs going to make damn sure they don’t ever let that happen again.
The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will tentatively release June 10, 2016 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 will release May 4, 2018. Of course there are no details at this point. The whole thing screams desperation and money. Maybe Sony and Marvel will play nice in the coming years after the superhero bubble bursts? And then we’ll need Spider-Man in The Avengers 6: The Sixening, because people have gotten tired of superheroes but love Spider-Man. This is just all around depressing. Let’s hope Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s good enough to justify this.
