Did you enjoy the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2? Did anything jump out and grab you? For your sake, I hope it did because a looooooot of Spider-Man affiliated projects are currently in the works. First of all, the confirmed Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man 4 are still happening. Secondly, part four seems to be a film about the “Sinister Six,” the better six villains of Spider-Man’s rogues gallery that form a sort of evil-Avengers to take down Spider-Man. And reports of Andrew Garfield stating he won’t be involved with fourth film seem to paint it as more of a spin-off than sequel (but that just might mean contract wise). Also, Drew Goddard (of Cabin in the Woods and the upcoming Daredevil Netflix series fame) is on tap to write it! Yay!
Finally, a spin-off film (separate from the confirmed four Spider-Man movies) focusing on Venom is also happening. That’s not so exciting as Venom is just a jerk version of Spider-Man (and is boring). But at it least it seems Sony is putting all of their time and effort into creating a cohesive universe (like the Marvel Studios movies) with Marc Webb, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and even Drew Goddard thinking of all of this stuff.
Although the original Spider-Man 2 trailer seemed overstuffed, it seems there’s a reason for that. It’s setting up a big universe. If it succeeds, more Spider-Men. If it fails, then we’ll never get a movie adaptation of Kraven’s Last Hunt, one of the greatest stories in Spider-Man’s comic history. What do you all think? Still hoping for everyone to get along and a X-Men/Spider-Man/Fantastic Four/Avengers crossover film in result?
