Blue Sky Studios have an odd animation track record. They are probably best known for the Ice Age movies, which vary in quality drastically, but they’ve done a host of other things that have not sucked. See, nothing stands out about their work but often it isn’t bad, and that’s the general vibe I’m getting off of their next effort, Spies in Disguise.
The movie, which is clearly just a vehicle for Will Smith to say Will Smith things except now he’s a pigeon, is about Will Smith turning into a pigeon… but he’s also a spy. I’m not going to lie, unless they’re leaving out a big chunk of information here I’m really only seeing one spy and one disguise meaning the movie’s name is very inaccurate. Maybe at some point more spies have more disguises but they’re not tipping their hand yet.
The phrase “tipping their hand” probably insinuates a bit more excitement on my end than I’m actually feeling over the film. However, this could be another Blue Sky Studios movie that works.
Spies in Disguise will release on December 25, 2019.
