By This past weekend some very tragic news hit Disney Channel, Cameron Boyce one of the stars of Disney’s highly successful Descendants film series passed away in his sleep Saturday night. According to reports from his family he died of a seizure and had been dealing with health issues for quite some time. Boyce will be reprising his role as Carlos the son of Cruella de Vil in the third film of the franchise. This news came as a shock to fans and fellow co-stars alike, all expressing their sadness over his sudden passing. I was first introduced to Cameron’s work when I watched the very first Descendants film. His adorable portrayal as the son of one of Disney’s most iconic villains struck me and I fell in love with the new film series. I have to admit at first I thought it would be quirky and not worth watching but I’ve been hooked ever since.
I especially loved how he interacted with the film’s only canine star. He played that role so well and now it’s hard to not imagine him reprising the role ever again. I know many fans like myself feel heartbroken and shocked over his sudden passing. For such a young talented actor it’s such a shame his career was cut so short.
The Boyce family issued the following statement:
“It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron.He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated. The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him…”We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother.”
Cameron’s other iconic roles included Disney Channel’s Jessie where he played Luke Ross, as well as one of Adam Sandler’s kids in Grown Ups (2018). Sandler posted a tribute on Twitter to Boyce after news of his passing broke Sunday. It’s a truly sad time for the Disney family. I thoroughly enjoyed Boyce in his role of Carlos and will miss him along with all his fans. Descendants 3 is set to debut next month on the Disney Channel and it will certainly be a more emotional viewing now following this sad news.
