Star Trek 4 has multiple scripts in the works

The Star Trek reboots haven’t really had much of a direction. After wonderfully rebooting the franchise Abrams then went on to make a disappointing remake of Wrath of Khan. Thankfully Justin Lin came on board for the next movie and brought us all a decent Trek, but this shuffling means that tonally the franchise hasn’t really been building anything, and that has Paramount a little confused. It hasn’t helped that the box office has shrunk with each release so Paramount isn’t getting the big franchise they were hoping for.

This all means that the studio is working hard to make Star Trek 4 a big hit, and drive the franchise in possibly yet another new direction that reportedly involves Quentin Tarantino… but also possibly other screenplays as Zachary Quinto revealed.

“First of all, I think there’s a couple of scripts. Because there was a script being written before Quentin Tarantino came up with his idea for a potential film. And so I think they are kind of developing more than one. So I don’t know what is going to happen. Quentin is off doing another movie.

So, I feel like we are in a state of anticipation. All of us are really excited about the idea of working with Quentin on a Trek film, but I know Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, who wrote the last film, are writing a script and there are another set of writers writing a script. So I don’t know. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

So you’ve got the Tarantino script, you’ve got the original script that brings Chris Hemsworth back, and then you’ve got a script that we haven’t even heard about? Yeesh. Star Trek Beyond was actually really good so unless that Tarantino script is actually happening maybe Paramount should head in that direction. I’d be heartbroken if this new cast doesn’t get more films.
