Star Trek: Discovery producer Alex Kurtzman has teased the possible return of fan-favorite character Spock to the cast. Speaking to Deadline for its “Crew Call” podcast, Kurtzman said, “I would be remiss in saying you’re going to see Spock again on Discovery because we’ve obviously jumped so far into the future that it wouldn’t make sense, but the idea of bringing Ethan [Peck] back, and Anson [Mount] and Rebecca [Romijn] and the Enterprise, I mean, we loved it so much, and to find a way to do that is definitely something we’re thinking about.”
That’s far from a confirmation, but it does fit in with the series’ past. In the J.J. Abrams reboot from 2009, there was a whole subplot about multiple dimensions that allowed Leonard Nimoy’s Spock to co-exist with Zachary Quinto’s take on the character, so there is always a chance that Star Trek personalities from one universe or time may end up in another.
It doesn’t hurt that both Peck and Mount have shown interest in reprising their roles. In an interview with TV Guide in April, Peck stated, “I would like to come back because being a part of Star Trek is like magic. It’s funny, I think Star Trek is so divisive amongst people in the world that are like, ‘Never seen it, not interested’. And those that do see it are very attached and find themselves very connected with it. To be a part of something like that is just really special.”
