According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stephen Colbert will make a cameo appearance somewhere in The Hobbit trilogy. This info comes from an unidentified knowledgeable source. The source says that Colbert’s cameo will not be in the first film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. That leaves a possible appearance (or appearances) in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug or The Hobbit: There and Back Again.
Rumors of a cameo came last week following a Colbert interview with Playboy. During the interview, Colbert said, “Peter Jackson invited me to the set [of The Hobbit] last year. I flew out and watched them shoot some scenes and went to some locations. I saw a 25-minute cut, and it was amazing. Jackson knows I’m a big fan of the films.” When asked if he was going to appear in the film, Colbert smiled and said, “Could be.”
No word on the nature of Colbert’s appearance, but my money’s on a waiter who’s nauseated by food or one of Smaug’s testicles.
