Steve McQueen, director of Shame (my second favorite film of the year), has announced his next project. Like with his debut film Hunger (which is amazing, I might add), McQueen will be turning to 1981 Great Britain, making a film about the Brixton Riots. Being an ignorant American, I have no idea what those are, but it doesn’t matter, because Steve McQueen is making another film. This will be in collaboration with the BBC, and though Michael Fassbender doesn’t appear to have been confirmed for any role, I would be very surprised if he were entirely absent from the film.
And speaking of Michael Fassbender, Steve McQueen is also making a movie set in 1853 about Solomon Northrup, who was a free man tricked into slavery. That film will, in fact, have Michael Fassbender as well as Brad Pitt, who will also be producing, and Chiwetel Ejoifor, who will probably play Northrup. I am excited for both of these things and everything else that Steve McQueen is working on, because he is awesome.
