Bad Santa was a funny movie. Hilarious, in fact. It also made a metric ton of money, and anything that makes money in Hollywood needs to be made at least twice. A sequel was confirmed some time ago, but it looks like a director has finally been attached with Steve Pink taking on the job along with rewriting the script. He directed Hot Tube Time Machine (a movie I heard was kind of funny) and he wrote High Fidelity and Grosse Pointe Blank (movies I remember being pretty funny) so let’s hope he can step up to the plate and that he can survive without John Cusack holding his hand.
Even if Pink can bring the goods, I still don’t think this will even come close to measuring up to the original. Sure, Billy Bob Thorton is returning, but two of the other stars have since passed away and what made Bad Santa so funny was its characters. They are going to have to come up with something wholly original to even come close, and that’s not really a reputation sequels are known for having.
Also, is it just me or does anyone else think it’s really weird when sequels release years after the initial film? I think there should be a statute that states you can’t make a sequel after a certain span of time has passed. Imagine all of the pain and suffering that we would’ve been spared!
