By During the Super Bowl a new trailer for Oz the Great and Powerful landed. You might be forgiven for thinking it was actually not a new trailer since we’ve seen so many trailers for this film that we’ve probably seen the entire movie already, but this is indeed a new trailer and many of the scenes are in fact “fresh,” as the kids say.
I’m a fan of anything with Sam Raimi’s name on it because I’m a Raimi fanboy, but the relentless push of this film and the heavily CGI trailers have me worried. I’m sure it will do well, but it doesn’t really look that interesting outside of the visuals. There’s a chance to do some dark stuff here, especially with Raimi directing, but it feels like its far too Disney candy coated to work. Hopefully the trailers are simply trying to show off the pretty world and we’re in for substance during the actual movie.
Oz the Great and Powerful opens in theaters in Disney Digital 3D, RealD 3D, and IMAX 3D March 8.
