Taika Waititi in talks to direct reborn Akira adaptation

Could it actually happen this time?

It's not like we haven't been here before so no one get to excited, but Deadline is reporting that Taika Waititi is in talks to direct a live action Akira adaptation. WB has kept the adaptation in development hell for years now with different directors coming on and dropping off, but maybe Waititi is the guy who can do it this time.

If so the director would definitely bring something unique to the film. If the buzz around Thor: Ragnorok is true he's done that for Marvel, and the trailers so far confirm that. But he's also already got another project to work on next in the form of a WWII dramedy called Jojo Rabbit, so this is just another tease at something at is either a long way off or never happening.
