I just heard the most disappointing news of the year, and we’re not even done with January. Recently, the first draft of Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight screenplay was leaked by one of six people: Bruce Dern, Michael Masden, Tim Roth, Django Unchained producer Reggie Hudlin, and two other unnamed people.
Taratino found this leak depressing, to the point where the film might not even see the light of day. “I give it out to six people and if I can’t trust them to that degree, then I have no desire to make it. I’ll publish it. I’m done. I’ll move on to the next thing. I’ve got ten more where that came from,” said the famous director in an interview with Deadline. “Starting this week, I’ll be setting meetings with publishers.”
Hopefully Tarantino will change his mind. It’s no secret that I love both Westerns and Django Unchained in particular, so the mere idea of another Tarantino Western had me drooling. But hey, even if the movie ultimately stays on the shelf, at least the published screenplay will make for an interesting read!
