Kevin Smith’s Red State has been on my radar for a while, and for good reason. The film plot revolves around a Fred Phelps stand-in that begins murdering his people in the name of God. Anything that knocks old Phelpsy down a peg or two is aces in my book. Today, Kevin Smith, on his blog, showed us the film’s first teaser poster — which you can see in the gallery — and gave us some insights into the making of the film.
Red State was shot in twenty-five(!) days and edited continuously by Smith as it was being shot. As such, the film wrapped, and two days later, the first cut was finished. From Smith’s blog, it seems like the film is a labor of love that hasn’t been seen from him since, well, forever. It’s a small-budget religious horror picture. That sort of thing NEEDS to be a labor of love. What I find particularly cool is that this poster, which is really very cool and atmospheric, wasn’t made by an ad agency.
