I will be the first to admit that this series has flown way under my radar. If you are like me and have never seen the first film, V/H/S, then head on over to Netflix and watch it. I’ll be doing so myself so I can be excited for the sequel, S-VHS.
Anyway, S-VHS is the sequel where it will continue as an anthology horror film. So it features several found-footage shorts written and directed by different independent filmmakers. For S-VHS in particular, there will be segments by Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun), Gareth Huw Evans (The Raid: Redemption), and also producer Gregg Hale and director Eduardo Sánchez of The Blair Witch Project. This film, like its precursor, will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. So expect it to appear on demand later this year with a possible small theatrical release later on as well.
My reaction to this trailer before seeing V/H/S is that there are quite a few video defects which have bothered me. It is possible that it was stylized that way for the trailer, I don’t know. But that is a small nitpick, I am still interested in seeing this because it is a bunch of short horror films crammed into one film done by known directors. Plus I could use a few good scares!
