The best band ever PERIOD, Tenacious D are currently in the sixth year of their six-year cycle of a new album release and with the imminent release of Post-Apocalypto some more information is coming out about what the new album will be. Looking around the industry, it looks like the new album might be the soundtrack to a new TV series.
Last night during their set at the Atlanta Shaky Knee’s Music Festival, Tenacious D made a surprise announcement that a sequel to their cult movie Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny would be coming later this year. They stated in an unconfirmed source that “I don’t know where you’ll be able to see it, but we have decided that it’s happening and it’s coming out.”
Now, couple this with the fact that during an interview with Louise Molony on the UK radio station Kerrang!, Jack Black mentioned casually that the band was working on “a post-apocalyptic musical comedy that’s an animated series that no one wanted in Hollywood but we’re making it anyway.” You can listen to the full interview that was initially done for the release of Jumanji below.
No real story points outside of the Kerrang! interview are to be found online, so is it going to be a direct sequel or more in the vein of their HBO sketch show everyone seems to have forgotten about? We don’t have an official confirmation unfortunately but it seems that this show will be released either independently or through one of the litany of streaming services available.
