Last week we reported that Johnny Depp is working on a Don Quixote film for Disney. Depp had been attached to Terry Gilliam’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote years ago. Both Hey U Guys and Red Carpet News TV had a chance to interview Gilliam at the British Independent Film Awards, and the director commented briefly on the issue.
To Hey U Guys, Gilliam simply said “We’re going to have to sort this one out,” and noted that he’d sent Depp a letter about the project. To Red Carpet News TV (video after the cut), Gilliam said that the project that Depp’s setting up is his own horse. “He’s not on my horse. We shall see where this goes,” he added with his characteristic schoolboy giggle.
Neither exchange seemed particularly harsh or bitter, but it’ll be interesting to see what happens in the coming months. Gilliam also noted that he’d wrapped shooting on The Zero Theorem and has until June to deliver a finished version of the film for a fall release. (My assumption about Ty Burrell replacing Christoph Waltz in The Muppets 2 was wrong.)
Check out the Red Carpet News TV video after the cut.
