Terry Gilliam finished shooting The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria

More setbacks to come, I'm sure

Somehow, after 17 years of hell, Terry Gilliam has finished shooting The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. No, this is not a joke. He did it. Gilliam finally did it. And he lived to tell the tale on Facebook over the weekend. Gilliam shared the following message on social media:

Sorry for the long silence. I've been busy packing the truck and am now heading home. After 17 years, we have completed the shoot of THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE.

Muchas gracias to all the team and believers. QUIXOTE VIVE!

If you haven't seen the 2003 documentary Lost in La Mancha, I highly recommend it. It chronicles the headaches and heartbreak of Gilliam's initial production of the film, which starred Johnny Depp and Jean Rochefort. After countless setbacks over the years, the film finally went into production (again) in March with Adam Driver and Jonathan Pryce.

The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is still a ways from release, so many other dastardly setbacks can happen. And probably will. For instance, there was news two weeks ago that the movie's own production company, Alfama Films, considered the whole enterprise "patently illegal". The battle to release Don Quixote may be a reprise of Gilliam's battle to release Brazil back in 1984.

At this rate, I predict that just before the world premiere of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, the theater will be crushed by a giant foot followed by a fart noise.
