Terry Gilliam's Don Quixote delayed again while John Hurt undergoes cancer treatment

Delayed with good reason for once

You may remember our report that Amazon is funding and releasing Terry Gilliam's The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, which was great news for fans looking forward to the long-delayed film. It seemed like the film, whose fizzled production was chronicled in the 2002 documentary Lost in La Mancha, was finally back on track.

Well, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is delayed again. With good reason this time, at least.

/Film notes that production on the movie is halted while Sir John Hurt undergoes treatment for pancreatic cancer. The esteemed 75-year-old actor revealed that he'd been diagnosed with cancer in June.

Regardless whether or not Don Quixote ever gets made, thankfully it sounds like Hurt's prognosis is good. Hurt said last month that he was winning the fight against cancer, and he recently told The Times, "Terry seems very optimistic that we will start filming soon. Optimism is a good thing."

Let's hope Hurt makes a full recovery.

In the gallery, something for levity.
