The 2012 New York Film Festival starts tonight with the world premiere of Ang Lee’s adaptation of Life of Pi. Both Alec and I will be there dressed to the nines, and a review of the film will be up on Monday morning. Keep an eye out for that. Above is the trailer for the festival from the people over at Indiewire.
This is the 50th anniversary of the New York Film Festival, and its main slate line-up includes the world premieres of Robert Zemeckis’s Flight and David Chase’s Not Fade Away, and screenings of Leos Carax’s Holy Motors and Michael Haneke’s Amour. In addition to these new releases, there’s a special screening of Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, a 4K restoration of Lawrence of Arabia, director’s cuts of Frank Oz’s Little Shop of Horrors and Michael Cimino’s Heaven’s Gate, a cast reunion to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Princess Bride, and the absolutely awesome-looking 1953 stop-motion film Old Czech Legends.
We’ve already reviewed a number of movies that are screening at NYFF 50, which you can find here. Check back with us every day for more reviews, interviews, and news from the festival. To buy tickets and browse the full slate of screenings, visit the New York Film Festival website.
