In a truly awful turn of events, production on Matt Reeves’ The Batman has been halted as lead star Robert Pattinson has tested positive for COVID-19. While Warner Bros. refrained from mentioning Pattison by name, Vanity Fair has confirmed with unnamed sources that Pattinson is the one affected.
In a generic statement to the press, WB representatives said, “A member of The Batman production has tested positive for COVID-19 and is isolating in accordance with established protocols. Filming is temporarily paused.” Vanity Fair attempted to follow-up with Pattinson’s manager but has not heard anything back.
Back in April of this year, The Batman was delayed in accordance with lockdown measures put in place by the government. This is now the second delay the film has suffered, though it’s a much worse scenario. We can only hope and pray that Pattinson makes a speedy recovery and that none of the other cast and crew are affected by the virus.
For the time being, the film is still on track for a release sometime in 2021. Warner Bros. will likely make some kind of official statement in the coming hours, so we’ll be sure to keep you updated on new information regarding this story.
