The Bodyguard returning to theaters to profit on a death

0

Fathom Events can give whatever justification they want for why the 1992 film The Bodyguard is returning to theaters. They say it's to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the film's release, and there is a 20th anniversary edition Blu-ray releasing the day before this showing happens. But we can all see the real reason the movie is getting this kind of rerelease: Whitney Houston's recent death.

Houston starred in The Bodyguard and contributed to the soundtrack, including her popular cover of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You." That soundtrack is the best selling soundtrack ever and the fourth best-selling album ever.

If you are interested in going to one of over 400 theaters on March 28, you can check out the details at Fathom Event's page. In addition to the film, audiences will get to watch Houston's "I Will Always Love You" music video and a making-of documentary entitled Memories of The Bodyguard.

With Whitney Houston in the public's mind, it's an excellent time to capitalize on Houston's name and make a little more money in the process. Of course, it's also blatantly transparent and quite crass.

Bob has been hanging around ModernMethod for years and and somehow writes almost everywhere, including Destructoid and Japanator. He was once lit on fire, but it's not as cool as you'd think. more + disclosures
