The cast of Call Me By Your Name will return for its sequel

Though the materialization of Luca Guadagnino’s sequel to Call Me By Your Name, the 2017 film adapting André Aciman’s novel of the same name, seems a ways off, the Italian director did drop a hint of news regarding its future cast.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Gay.it, Guadagnino spoke about how the ongoing coronavirus pandemic cancelled a meeting he had set to advance the production of the sequel. “I was going to America to meet a writer I love very much, whose name I don’t want to mention, to talk about the second part… Unfortunately, everything is canceled.” With productions being held up globally due to the pandemic, naturally this sounds familiar.

Guadagnino did mention the hope for a cast reunion when the sequel eventually takes off, calling the original production a “great pleasure,” and that original cast, led by Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer “will all be there in the new film.”

Though the details of the sequel to the Oscar-winning film (Best Adapted Screenplay; James Ivory) are unspecified, author André Aciman released Find Me, a direct sequel novel, late last year. Whether Guadagnino’s film will adapt Aciman’s follow-up novel is unclear.

Guadagnino is currently working as a producer on Born to Be Murdered, a Greece-set thriller starring John David Washington and Alicia Vikander.
