Despite previous claims to the contrary, Netflix has announced that The Crown will be returning for a sixth and final season. What was originally meant to end during season five was seemingly too good of a thing to let go.
News from the palace: we can confirm there will be a sixth (and final) season of @TheCrownNetflix, in addition to the previously announced five!

In a post on Twitter, writer/creator Peter Morgan stated, “As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons. To be clear, Series 6 will not bring us any closer to present-day – it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”
I guess the passing of the titular Crown needs just a bit more build-up to be fully convincing. Fans of the series are likely elated by the news while I’m just sitting here wondering how I completely missed the series. Supporting actress Imelda Staunton is wonderful, though, so maybe I’ll give it a go.
