As with basically every other production currently ongoing, the Friends reunion special for HBO has been delayed due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. The special was set to debut with HBO Max in May, but sources close to The Hollywood Reporter have informed the publication that the closure of studios in Hollywood has put a damper on plans.
The reunion was scheduled to film next Monday and Tuesday at Stage 24 of the Warner Bros. Studio lot, though that clearly cannot happen at the moment. A new date has not been set, though HBO anticipates filming will begin in May for a release later in 2020. With everything going on right now, it’s uncertain if any shows will be filming for the remainder of the year.
Friends may have been a hit in its heyday, but I’ve never been a fan of it. I was too young when it originally aired and now I just can’t get past the dated elements of its storytelling. A lot of the jokes used stereotypes about society that amount of punchlines like, “WHAT IF I’M GAY?!” It’s really not that good of a show, in retrospect.
