We’ve been eagerly following any bit of news trickling out from Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, the Lord of the Rings prequel split into two parts which started production this March. Now, we’ve finally got a release date for the films! Warner Brothers will release The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on December 14, 2012, then follow it a year later with The Hobbit: There and Back Again on December 13, 2013.
What’s awesome about that second subtitle is that it’s the alternate name of the original novel, a nice touch that exemplifies how Peter Jackson carefully applies minor details that enrich his adaptations of Tolkien’s Middle-earth. It’s going to be hard waiting another year and a half before returning to the Shire, but hopefully it will make the result that much sweeter, even if it might have some visual problems.
