Luke Evans, who played Apollo in the godawful Clash of the Titans and will be playing Zeus in Tarsem Singh’s awesome-looking Immortals, has just been cast as the role of Bard the Bowman in The Hobbit, dashing my hopes of seeing Benedict Cummmmmperbatchhhh in the role. For those of you out there not familiar with the book, Bard faces off against the dragon Smaug near the very end of the book. As ludicrous as it is to try and avoid spoilers for a book older than my parents, he plays an important role in the book’s denouement, and that’s all I’ll say on the matter. As Bard does not appear until the dwarves and Bilbo reach Smaug’s lair, it’s safe to say we won’t be seeing this spoony Bard until 2013, when part 2 arrives in theaters.
The most I can say for this guy is that he seems to be rising fast. His first role was as a god of handsomness, for God’s sake. Wait, what’s Apollo the god of? Anyway, all of a sudden the dude is in a rash of medium roles in major motion pictures. Good job, Luke Evans!
