The LEGO Movie was a pleasant surprise when it came out in 2014, introducing us to a whimsical universe where the Ninja Turtles peacefully co-existed alongside Batman, Shaq, and Lando Calrissian. Given the family-friendly nature of the LEGO property, audiences got the chance to experience some of their favorite modern day film heroes acting a bit differently than they’ve been portrayed in their respective film franchises. One highlight of the film came in the form of LEGO Batman, portrayed in the film by Arrested Development‘s Will Arnett as a significantly less serious version of the Caped Crusader.
The LEGO Batman Movie intends to explore the lighter side of Batman’s dark, emotional spectrum in the way that LEGO truly knows how to do. As you can see in the teaser trailer below, Batman really does have a lighter side that might make him the dorkiest superhero ever (sorry Aquaman). While plot details are still slim right now, there’s enough context in the teaser to know just what kind of film to expect.
Joining Arnett is a who’s who of comedy actors, such as his Arrested Development co-star Michael Cera as Robin, Rosario Dawson (Daredevil) as Batgirl, Ralph Fiennes (Kubo and the Two Strings) as Alfred, Zach Galifianakis (Birdman) as Joker, and Mariah Carey (?!) as Gotham’s mayor. The LEGO Movie co-director Adam McKay will helm the feature on a script from Seth Grahame-Smith (The Flash).
