Aardman is just the best. Most people are familiar with their work from Wallace and Gromit or Chicken Run, but some will be familiar with their work with Shaun the Sheep as well. Shaun’s shorts usually involve little to no talking and rely on sound effects and physical comedy to make their point. It worked for Tom & Jerry, so it’s not a bad idea to follow a classic formula.
The first Shaun the Sheep Movie was well received by critics and audiences but claymation does take a while to do properly, so the sequel is finally coming out after being announced shortly after the first film.
This time Shaun the Sheep is dealing with an extraterrestrial!
The plot seems to be a little reminiscent of E.T. but Aardman is bringing their great sense of humor and charm to this adventure. I found myself laughing more than I expected at the slapstick gags present throughout. The UFO hunting characters in hazmat suits were a particular highlight, as was an astronaut wordlessly screaming at the characters. There is so much to enjoy in this trailer that I found myself picking up new gags on each subsequent watch. I am excited to see this and in the meantime, Aardman’s back catalog is there to tide us over.
