Usually when I write about sequel announcements, I like to use the title you see above in order to express what little emotion I have. But I’m conflicted here. While The Purge is getting a third entry because The Purge: Anarchy performed so well at the box office, I’m actually hoping for the best because Anarchy was f**king great. It was cheesy, starred Frank Grillo as basically the Punisher, and had a nice layer of pseudo political messages.
If the third Purge (which is the only franchise I’ll admit is worthy of annual entries), written and directed by the Anarchy screenwriter, James DeMonaco, can continue with its current awesome trajectory, we’ve got a winner. It’s probably releasing next year.
