I’m not saying Joe Dante is the Monster Savior, returning to man to save our vampire and werewolf-related sins, but I’m hopeful. The director of Gremlins, one of my absolute, top-five favorites, will be directing a film called Monster Love written by Greg Pak, current architect of Marvel’s Incredible Hulk comics. The film’s plot is pretty standard fare for today’s vampire/werewolf crazed crowd. A vampire and a werewolf fall in love. Their species don’t cotton to that nonsense, so all kinds of badness happens.
If this was from anyone else, I’d be skeptical, but we’re talking a script by Greg Pak, who’s positively brilliant, and a return to monster movie comedy by the man Joe Dante himself. That’s enough to sell me.
