Like his fellow Harry Potter co-stars, Robert Pattinson has long been trying to spread his proverbial wings and find roles that show off his range as an actor. He may have stumbled a bit with the Twilight series, but since then he has been in more high brow roles but it’s not hard to be higher brow than Twilight. Unfortunately outside of Cosmopolis not many of his movies have really landed well, so it can only be a good thing his latest film Good Time was screened at Cannes this year and is being distributed by the hot and still getting hotter A24.
Set in New York City on what seems to be a single night, Good Time tells the story of sibling love after a bank heist goes wrong and one of the brothers is held at Riker’s Island. Desperate to get his brother out, Constantine “Connie” Nikas works with the usual shady lot you can find if you go down the right back alley of New York City, with all the pitfalls those shady characters entail. The trailer gave me a lot of Collateral vibes and that’s always a good thing in my eyes so I’ll be looking forward to this when it comes out on August 11th this year.
Directed by the Safdie Brothers, and written by Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, Good Time stars alongside Robert Pattinson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ben Safdie, Barkhad Abdi, and Buddy Duress.
