It’s often stunning how quickly optimism can be crushed with a well-placed blow to the heart. This clip from Divergent (which I guess I’m going to review if this trend of me covering this flick keeps up) just looks bad. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, awful.
The music sucks, the blocking is unimaginative shot/reverse shot, the color palette is perhaps the most insidious use of teal & orange I’ve seen in years, the actors have zero chemistry, and that dialogue is flat as hell. It’s only 90-odd seconds, but it paints an unfortunate picture of a film pooped out to capitalize on the Hunger Games craze.
