By I somehow missed the announcement of a Thor sequel, though it’s not exactly a SHOCKING REVELATION. Marvel has just announced that Thor 2, or possible Thor: Stupid Subtitle, will be released in the summer of 2013 alongside Iron Man 3. A specific release date hasn’t been set, but it will probably be a month or two after Iron Man 3‘s May 3rd release date.
More interestingly, Kenneth Branagh will not be returning to direct the sequel. There is reportedly no bad blood between Marvel and Branagh, as was rumored with Jon Favreau’s departure from the Iron Man franchise. I’ll be happy to see a director take the helm with a bit more of an action movie sensibility, as Thor‘s action, while fun, was often incomprehensible (see the Jotunheim sequence, or rather, don’t see it. Because you can’t.), so this could be a welcome change.
