Sometimes I don’t understand myself. I know it’s common to hate on Rob Zombie’s films, but I feel like I should love them. He makes aggressively trashy horror movies. I love aggressively trashy horror movies, and yet there’s something about Zombie’s style, his execution that always falls flat for me. Maybe it’s that he takes himself too seriously. Given the operatic tone of this teaser for Three From Hell, I’m willing to assume that’s the case.
This is an eye-roll-inducing teaser for me, the kind of teaser that doesn’t need to exist at all. All you get is the reminder that Rob Zombie made two movies a lot of Goths loved in high school, and that Three From Hell is a movie that is in fact coming out. It gives us nothing new–except for a luchador with a machine gun. That’s something I ought to be all over. Luchador-with-machine-gun ranks Very Cool on the Kylemeter. Yet I feel so little.
Also, Danny Trejo is going to be in this. Perhaps the Rob Zombie of actors, I feel like I should love everything Trejo is in, but almost all of it is uniformly terrible.
Maybe the next trailer will offer a bit more excitement and more of a reason to check out this sequel to The Devil’s Rejects before it escapes into theaters this Fall.
