Todd McFarlane has wanted to get a reboot to his 1997 classic Spawn film off the ground for some time now. It’s always been delayed for any number of reasons, but McFarlane still soldiers on as it remains his only notable property. According to a recent interview with The Gate, McFarlane has his sights on maybe starting production next year:
The thing that keeps slowing it down is that the negotiation I’ve done is I write, produce, direct, but I’ve got to push a lot of my other endeavors off to the side so I can just get tunnel vision on it…It’s not going to be a giant budget with a lot of special effects; it’s going to be more of a horror movie and a thriller movie, not a superhero one…[The producers] want me to deliver the script by the end of the year, which would basically mean we’d be shooting next year. So, that’s the goal right now.
I don’t know about this one you guys. Spawn has always been extremely out of date even in its heyday, so if a reboot gets off the ground now, I’m sure it’ll drown in 2015’s other big superhero films. Maybe a move toward horror would be a good thing and make it stand out? What do you all think? Would you even see another Spawn movie?
