Once he has finished promoting Mission Impossible, then shooting Rock Of Ages, Oblivion and One Shot, Tom Cruise is lining up actioner All You Need Is Kill as his next project that you won’t see for a very long time indeed, to be directed by Bourne Identity helmer, Doug Liman.
The script is an adaptation of the Japanese novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, a science-fiction actioner in which a new recruit is sent into battle against an invading alien force, only to be killed and subsequently resurrected to suffer the same fate. Eventually he realises that his skills are improving and he may yet be able to break out of his loop. In other words, Source Code with a bit of Starship Troopers. I can’t say that the premise is filling me with excitement, while the title is the most ridiculous effort since Tomorrow Never Dies and casting Tom Cruise as a new (presumably young) recruit seems a bit of a push, but hopefully it’ll all sound a bit more promising in however many years it takes for Cruise to find time to get the thing in motion.
