Tom Holland and Kevin Feige have finally address Spider-Man’s exit from the MCU

It’s been a tumultuous week for fans of the web-slinger. After reports came out about Sony and Disney failing to reach an agreement on Spider-Man and current Peter Parker actor Tom Holland basically confirming the news, we now have an official statement from Marvel’s Kevin Feige on the matter. Straight from the D23 Expo, Entertainment Weekly spoke to both Holland and Feige, and the two officially stated the Spider-Man is out of the MCU.

“It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life,” Holland told the publication. “Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life. It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”

Feige then added, “We got to make five films within the MCU with Spider-Man: two standalone films and three with the Avengers. It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever. We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”

For all intents and purposes, Spidey is gone. There is always some faint possibility that Sony and Disney will reconcile in the future, but it certainly isn’t happening right now. Fans are still upset over the news, but Far From Home ended with the perfect out for the character. While it’ll obviously be weird to not have any references to Iron Man, one of the most common complaints from the MCU entries is that the movies felt too overloaded with connections to other films. Spider-Man has a gigantic cast of villains that have no connection to The Avengers, so this could be the perfect opportunity to step away from the MCU and tell a 100% original story.

Or it could just lead to a Venom and Spider-Man crossover. That would be nice.
