Until just now, watching the trailer for 1911 before writing this post, I’d thought that Jackie Chan had retired from acting. I have absolutely no evidence of this fact, just the notion in my little brain that he’s quit the business. Apparently not, as this is his 100th film! He co-directing and starring in 1911, the story of the formation of the Republic of China when citizens overthrew the Qing Dynasty in the early 20th century. The film looks sufficiently epic, and we can probably expect to see a lot of highly nationalist Chinese themes. I wonder if it’ll touch on China’s future as a more oppressive regime.
1911 opens in the US on October 12th and opens in China on Friday.
