One of the lesser known flavors of Willy Shakes, Coriolanus is about a dude who hates democracy and stuff. Military commanders are often the central preoccupation of Shakespeare plays, but this might be a tough part to make redeemable, if that’s in fact the aim of director/star Ralph Fiennes. His modern warfare take on the play has either been filmed long ago or took forever to complete, but we’re finally going to see it at the end of the year.
This also stars Gerard Butler of 300 fame, Vanessa Redgrave angling for awards, Jessica Chastain, an actress of the moment because of Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life, and Brian Cox, who I’m suprised to find had no involvement in the other Shakespeare movies despite his ability to recite large portions of the plays by memory.
