All this downtime from playing 007 has provided Daniel Craig to get all up in our 2011, what with playing the lead in this month’s Cowboys and Aliens, starring as Mikael Blomkvist in the American remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (out in December), providing the voice of the dread pirate Red Rackham in The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, and taking on the horror genre in September’s Dream House, a film whose trailer has officially dropped today.
At first, I was kind of bored. It starts out with all the trappings of a mediocre, predictable horror film where it turns out that he’s the bad guy all along. Then half way through we find out that the family who was murdered in his family’s house was his family. WHAT!? That cranked my interest level from “blasé” to “invested.” The hallucination-peeling-back-to-reality effects look really, really cool tool, very Silent Hill-y.
Thanks to the gut-wrenching, soul-rending experience that was Insidious, every horror film I see this year (and likely the next few) will be compared, but Dream House has the potential to be, at the very least, a worthwhile psychological horror.
We’ll find out September 30th.
