Timecrimes (Los Cronocrímenes) was writer/director Nacho Vigalondo’s amazing and critically-acclaimed feature-length debut about the horrors of time paradoxes and time traveling. Sticking with another sci-fi staple, Vigalondo’s next film, Extraterrestre (probably translated into Extraterrestrial for its English title), follows two young adults discovering the world was recently victimized by an alien attack. However, rather than making the typical “small group of survivors attempt to save the world from doom,” Vigalondo’s characters explore the finer things in life, such as betrayals, one-night stands, authority, and love, all amidst an alien attack.
If Extraterrestre sounds like your type of film and you live in Toronto, check it out at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival! Otherwise, look for it to make the festival circuits through the rest of the year before its actual release.
