Netflix just unveiled the trailer for what looks to be a very wild bit of horror coming out this spring. Above is certainly more a minute-and-a-half long collage of discordant images of panic, screams, gross stuff, and skewed angles than an explanation of just what The Perfection is supposed to be about, but I’m cool with that. There’s enough shown to piece together a threadbare plot, and those art-horror violin strikes crawl right up the back of my neck in the best possible way.
Shots look ghastly and elegant by turns, and there’s just a thread of humor which I think could morph this into the sort of movie Starry Eyes wanted to be.
For clarity’s sake, the synopsis sees a struggling musical prodigy seeking out a star pupil to (I’d assume) steal her body (or maybe eat it?) and become her. This sort of supernatural body horror is few and far between these days, and I’m interested in seeing all the grimy strangeness that the trailer isn’t showing us when The Perfection drops on the streaming service May 24, 2019.
Unfortunately, this one’s not a surprise release.
