Directed by newcomer Jonathan Singer-Vine, LICKS debuted at this year’s SXSW. While Hubert, Matt, and I didn’t get a chance to catch it, the film received some good acclaim. LICKS is about a young Oakland resident returning to the city after two years in jail and the unfortunate reality he faces in his inner-city community. Big cities aren’t just fun and games; there are real threats of violence and danger that plague certain neighborhoods, as I can personally attest to here in Chicago.
