The Japanese trailer for The Avengers is brimming with new footage, including a shot of Gwyneth Paltrow’s Pepper Potts looking deeply concerned (maybe someone finally told her how embarrassing Goop is), a hovership a lot like the Valiant from Doctor Who, a bit of screentime for Hawkeye and Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill (she speaks!), plus Nick Fury wielding a rocket launcher and all the requisite blowy-uppy stuff.
In keep with the recent trend, it’s a significantly better trailer than the English language one – I love the voiceover guy’s enthusiasm when he says ‘Avengers!’, even if it isn’t a patch on ‘Snow White-o!’ – with more focus on each hero, tighter cutting and a greater sense of scale, even if the aliens only seem interested in blowing up New York, just as the Decepticons were singularly intent on trashing Chicago (not that anyone noticed a difference). As someone mostly unimpressed by the Marvel movies leading up to this one, and who grew up with different Avengers entirely, this is the closest any trailer has come to getting me excited.
